The New York City Marathon has posted the race numbers for participants. I got 36423, which translates to the last corral of the wave 2 green start. Just being in the race is very cool, and I don’t want to come across as a big complainer but this is just not my first choice for a start position! I know you can’t always get what you want (how many times have I said that to my kids) but I just want to state for the record that I’d rather not be in the back (although only about 4500 trying to get through the green start in wave 2, rather than 13,000), and I’d rather not run on the lower level of the bridge! Oh well…
If only my number was in the 37,000 range, then I’d be right at the front of the blue start in wave 3. Now, that is the best place to be!

Well, I guess I’ll have to post back on that front blue start in wave 3 is the best place or not. That is what I got. This is my first marathon and like you, I am also shooting to complete it in 4 and 1/2 hours. However, I have never been to NYC and I am really looking forward to really taking in the sites as we run through them so just finishing is my ultimate goal.
Guess good luck and have fun!
Good luck to you too! NYC is awesome and the marathon is amazing!
If this is your first marathon, I definitely recommend taking it slower than you might normally until you get over the 59th St bridge at 14-15 miles. Run it for experience and not for time. Then you will get the full Brooklyn experience in the first half, and left some in the tank so you can really enjoy the Central Park finish over the last 4 miles. Brooklyn is awesome – the crowds are amazing on 4th Ave, also on Lafayette Ave in Clinton and also in Williamsburg.
