2009 NYRR Calendar is Out

– Posted in: running

Full NYRR 2009 calendar is out.  Good job in getting the full calendar out early so we can start planning!  In the last couple of years, some of the half marathon dates were not known until mid year.

Biggest changes appear to be in the timing of the half marathons.  My favorite race, the Brooklyn Half Marathon, has unfortunately shifted later and later each year.  For many years, it was held in March, then in 2007 was in April and then in early May this past year.  For 2009, it will be run on May 30, the week after Memorial Day.  I’m sure the race won’t be quite as fun with no shade on the boardwalk or Ocean Parkway on a summer day…

Other changes include the New York City Half Marathon pushed to the end of August, and the Queens Half Marathon moved up to early August.  We will certainly see weather extremes in the Grand Prix in 2009, with 2 races in winter, and 2 races in summer.

Otherwise, lots of the same races with similar timing we’ve seen before.

Warning: last year they actually came out with some half-marathon dates earlier, and then switched them. I was SO annoyed about that – there is nothing worse than planning a race (especially with travel – I don’t travel TO the New York races, but they could move them to a date when I’m supposed to be traveling elsewhere) and then having them change it.

Yes – you are right. It was the Brooklyn Half that they rescheduled pretty late in the game last year.
