Last night I registered for the Flying Pig Marathon, in Cincinnati, OH, on May 1, solidifying my spring plans. I’ve wanted to run this for several years, ultimately choosing to run Austin in 2009 and Providence in 2010. Assuming I finish my other planned marathon in January, Flying Pig will be my 9th state and 15th marathon overall!
Will fill in with smaller races during the year, but my major races for 2011 shape up as follows:
- Jan 9 – First Light Marathon
- March 20 – (pending lottery) NYC Half Marathon
- April 2 – 13.1 Marathon New York
- May 1 – Flying Pig Marathon
- May 15 – Red Bank Triathlon (Olympic)
- Oct 2 – Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains

Looks like a solid schedule. My 2011 schedule is coming together as well.
I loved the Flying Pig. It’s where I set my PR ages ago. Great choice! How was Providence? – I’m considering that race one of these years.
Providence was nice. I really enjoyed the course and that the half marathon people ran on a separate course from the marathon people. A good 10+ miles of the race was on bike trails which was nice and different. The race weekend was very well organized, although the expo was nothing more than some charity tables with info, and I’d have been happier with more water stops. There wasn’t much crowd support but great comraderie among the runners. The race fell on a hot, sunny and humid day, which didn’t help! The postrace spread, including beer, was fantastic…
just as a side note- flying pig is SUPER hilly. I ran in cincy this past summer and was SHOCKED by the hills! nice people out there though!
Now I’m scared 🙂
I know there is a whopper of a hill in the early middle miles, but otherwise the elevation chart they publish seems to not be so bad and the race tends downhill in the 2nd half.
