Triathlon Tuneup in the Books

– Posted in: triathlon

I wish I had more time to write these race reports :(  Full report to follow.  Yesterday I finished the sprint triathlon at Harriman State Park organized by New York Triathlon Club.  I had an awesome race and finished in 1:54:40, unofficially.  There was some kind of issue with the timing chips, and the official results [...]

Triathlon prep

– Posted in: triathlon

In final preparation mode for my second triathlon ever, and my first of the year.  I'm running (I wonder, do you call it running, or something more generic, like participating?) in a sprint triathlon at Harriman State Park on Sunday.  I'm worried that I'm woefully unprepared for the overall event, the transitions, and the swim. [...]

Week in review

– Posted in: bike East River Park injury running triathlon

Haven't had a chance to write in the last week, so here is a review of what I've been up to! Went to Middlebury VT last weekend.  My wife was speaking on a panel at alumni weekend at the college.  Middlebury is very nice.  We stayed at a great bed and breakfast, and tooled around [...]

Discomfort vs Pain

– Posted in: injury running swim

Was listening to the Steve Somers interview of Dave Lennon of Newsday from last night where they were talking about the Mets injuries, and Jose Reyes in particular, and discussing discomfort vs pain.  Discomfort is something you can continue to work through, where pain is when you need to shut it down.  It really hit [...]

May 2009 in Review

– Posted in: Month End Summaries

Running – back to respectability with 59.5 miles over 9 runs (50 miles per month minimum is my goal).  June is always my worst running month of the year.  Last year I only did 15.1 miles.  Will certainly do more than that this year, with triathlons in June and July. Races – 1 (Brooklyn Half [...]

Brooklyn Half Marathon Race Report

– Posted in: NYRR Race Reports running

Wow I had a lot to say, sorry about the length :) First, right off the bat, I think this was a wonderful event, and very well organized by NYRR.  With the exception of the NYC Marathon, this is probably the biggest NYRR race, in terms of participants, I’ve ever run in.  There were almost [...]

2:02:46

– Posted in: running

My finishing time in the Brooklyn Half Marathon was 2:02:46.  Very consistent throughout.  I did not go all out in Propect Park, and found the energy to finish strong over the last 3 miles.  Can't complain with the result at all, considering the warm temps and my leg issues.  Full race report probably tomorrow or [...]

Think I messed up

– Posted in: gym injury swim

Last night, I decided I would go to the gym and swim, rather than run, to rest my legs for the Brooklyn Half Marathon.  Good plan.  However, I did something kind of silly.   Over the last few weeks, a nagging injury to my upper thigh/groin area, has gotten steadily worse.  Lately, I've been icing [...]
