This time of the year, on Tuesday nights, I run in Central Park with NYRR for a speed workout. Had to skip it today, though, and for a good reason. My 13 year old got accepted to one of the NYC specialized high schools, and now has a decision to make regarding which school to [...]

No Bronx Half Marathon For Me
February 9, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 runningSince I'm tapering for the Austin Marathon, which is in 6 short days, I skipped the Bronx Half Marathon yesterday. Of course, the one I skip would be the nicest weather New York has seen for a February race in years! I've had a lot of fun reading all the race reports, but I'm a little [...]
East River Park – A Star!
February 6, 2009 – Posted in: East River ParkLast night was the big Red Bull Snowscrapers snowboard competition at my main running spot, East River Park. I've seen estimates of 10,000 and 20,000 people in attendance. Amazing, considering it was something like 15 F last night. Check out this amazing picture of the snowboard ramp and the packed-in crowd.
What happened to Brooklyn?
February 6, 2009 – Posted in: NYRR runningThanks to Run Dangerously, I see that the Brooklyn Half Marathon date is again up in the air for 2009. I, for one, would love to see it moved back to March, or even April, where it belongs. I've already bemoaned the original May 30 date. Who knows what's going on. On a related note, [...]
Taper mode!
February 6, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 running Speed WorkoutIn taper mode for the Austin Marathon, which is in 9 days. Last run was Tuesday nights speed workout in Central Park in the snow! Central park was absolutely stunning after the storm we had Tuesday. At least 5 inches of snow everywhere! The road was sort of plowed, but still snow covered and pretty [...]
Final long run before Austin Marathon
February 2, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 runningWith proper planning, was able to do the long run on a beautiful day yesterday. Started out at 11am with temps in the upper 30's. By the end, it was 51 degrees. Therefore, weather was not a factor, as it has been so much in the last month. My route took me down 1st Ave [...]
Jan 2009 in Review
January 31, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 Month End SummariesIt was an amazing month for me. First time I ever reached 100 miles in a month! Between 15 runs and 7 trips to the gym, I 'worked out' 22 out of 31 days. Also, I did the first 2 weeks of the Hundred Pushup Challenge. Big event for Feburary is the Austin Marathon, on [...]
Bib number 36?
January 30, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009If I read the email I received from the folks at the Austin Marathon properly, I am bib #36. Wow! Never had a number that low before. Maybe never will again? I signed up very early, so maybe they assign numbers based on registration order? Otherwise, I guess it is totally random. I feel soooo [...]
Nailed the speed workout
January 27, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 running Speed WorkoutSpeed workout tonight in Central Park was a 4 mile tempo run of the middle 4 miles of Central Park. While this is the least interesting of the various workouts we can do, it is always a great chance to race the distance on a familiar course and with lots of hills. It is the [...]
Pain in the toe!
January 27, 2009 – Posted in: Austin Marathon 2009 injury runningStarted noticing a pain in the toe today. Left foot big toe is hurting a bit when I put pressure on it. It is not a nail issue, but more of a joint pain - hoping it goes away soon! I'll test it out in my speed workout tonight. Also, since Saturday, my left shoulder and neck has [...]
